WE LOVE LITERATURE

This website has been designed and created by Adam Johnson, Samuel Priderch and Samantha Farnham.

We are a group of level 5 English Students attending High Melton University Campus in Doncaster, England.

The reason for this website is to enable us to present our research and completed assignment for our Modernism unit. The specification of the assignment was to create a critical presentation that summarises and reflects on the key issues and arguments raised by a seminal piece of non-literary writing relating to modernism supplemented by an illustrative close analysis of some selected passages from a literary text explaining the relationship between text and critical material and the relevant contextual factors surrounding both.

The text we chose is ‘Heart of darkness by Joseph Conrad. We will look at 2 non-literary pieces of writing to enable us to present the arguments of two different critics the first being an essay by Chinua Achebe a Nigerian novelist who argues that Joseph Conrad and Heart of Darkness are blatant examples of racism. The second text by Watts counters Achebes argument and defends Conrad.

We decided to present these arguments in the form of a debate style TV show. We wrote the script, rehearsed and recorded ourselves playing the two critics and one of us playing the presenter.
